From now on Facebook allows pages to tag products in their updates. Only requirement is that you linked Facebook Shop with your webshop, so that you get a “Shop” section on your Facebook Page. This is possible with most webshop platforms like Magento, BigCommerce & Shopify (= the platform which we use for So Baggy). Once the connection is established, you can start tagging products in updates containing a picture or video.
To tag products you first expand the update (by clicking on it). Next you follow these steps:
- Click on tag products
- Start typing the name of the product
- Facebook will suggest products, select the correct one
- Click on done tagging
The result will look like this with a message “Tap for details” and price and a thumbnail underneath the post:
When a Facebook visitor clicks on “Tap for details” he or she will see the productname and by clicking on it will get all the details including a button to shop the item:
After clicking the button it’s possible to immediately pay for the item within the webshop:
We are really happy with this innovation, but we’ll have to wait and see if Facebook users will click on the tags. Good to know: Facebook recommends not to boost posts with product tags, but rather use Dynamics Ads to promote products.
Dynamic ads let you create relevant and timely ads on Facebook based on the products people have visited on your website or your app. These ads are best for businesses with large product catalogs who want to create personalized ads for their customers.
Dynamic ads look identical to other link ads or carousel-format ads that are available on Facebook. However, instead of individually creating an ad for each of your products, Facebook creates the ads for you and personalizes them for each of your customers.
