After a long countdown, the day finally arrived on the 16th of April that Sarah Somers joined So Buzzy as Social Media Strategist. With several years of experience, she is the perfect addition to our team, and her social media insights will certainly come in handy.

What have we learned about Sarah so far? She enjoys a nice cup of coffee, she can jump very high in the air, and she likes to listen to music by Texas. Are you excited to meet her too? In this blog post, she tells you a bit about herself.

  • How were your first few weeks as Social Media Strategist at So Buzzy?

Very good! ? It’s always exciting to start a new job. But Kel gave me a lot of confidence from day 1. That’s a very nice feeling to begin with. And the colleagues are great! There is a very familial atmosphere, I already feel right at home.  Then there is our office dog Lola, who snores while we are working. That took some getting used to ?

  • What was your most fun assignment until now?

I really enjoyed giving a guest lecture to the students of communication sciences at Ghent University. I always enjoy sharing my passion for social media. Especially with students, because they often see social media from their own perspective and hardly ever think about the professional side.

  • What kind of assignments or campaigns would you like to do in the future with So Buzzy?

It would be nice to start up social media for a company that is not yet active on social media at all. Starting from scratch must be special. I would also like to do a campaign in which I can use our influencers database So Bloggy. And I hope I get to experiment a little with new trends or silly ideas. That’s also part of our job.

  • What is your favorite social media channel?

Twitter, without a doubt! From a professional point of view, I think it is a very nice medium to stay informed about the latest trends in the social media world. But it’s also the perfect channel for getting in touch with people and building up a network.

  • Which brand or company would you recommend to follow?

I’m a big fan of accounts that offer their customers or fans a look behind the scenes. There’s nothing more fun than looking into a world you don’t know, right?! A good example is the Instagram account of the cycling team Quick-Step Floors. Another example is the British royal house. I’m not necessarily a fan of the royal family, but I love how they make a very closed world more accessible to people. For some companies, it is scary to start with social media, but I really believe it pays off.

  •  What is your favorite emoji?

? ? ?

  • Which TV shows would you recommend?

I’m a big fan of the TV show Friends, a classic of my time. I think I’ve seen every episode at least 10 times, but I still find them funny. What about recent TV series? Netflix for the win! La Casa de Papel, Suits, Stranger Things, Designated Survivor,…
But these last few weeks, I’ve often heard at the office that I urgently need to catch up on Game of Thrones ?

  • If you could be an animal, which animal would you choose?

A giraffe. Super cool animals, I can keep looking at them. They are so tall that they can see everything. I am very curious, so that would suit me well ? They always go around in a group, and I am also someone who likes to be surrounded by people.

  • What do you do during the weekend?

My weekends mainly consist of quality time with my daughter. She is almost 2 years old, so we regularly visit the playground and the zoo. On Friday evening, you can find me in the sports hall, where I play indoor football. I can also really enjoy drinking a cup of coffee and reading the weekend newspaper.

  • What is your favorite travel destination?

The most difficult question for me, because I love to travel. But if I really must choose: Namibia. We went there on our honeymoon 3 years ago and we will definitely go back. Stunning nature, complete tranquillity, and all those giraffes that you can see there ?

I am also a fan of Australia. I have visited the country already 4 times. Once on holiday with friends, and 3 times with the Belgian Solar Team of the University of Leuven. It was my job to help the students communicate to the press and on social media during the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. I have such amazing and intense memories of my time in Australia. The only downside is that it takes a very long flight to get there ?

  • Do you have any secret talents that we don’t know about?

Wait and see ?

  • Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?

Still as a Social Media Strategist at So Buzzy, of course!

Exactly what we wanted to hear 😉 Would you like to stay informed about Sarah’s work? Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram, where you will see her appear regularly.
