Blog updated on February 6th 2019 because of new functionality launch

Google is my best friend. When I start looking for a company or certain information, my first reflex is to check Google, and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one. As a business, it is really important that you are easy to find in the results of a search engine. Google recently introduced the possibility to quickly increase your visibility, thanks to the so-called ‘Google Posts’.

What are Google Posts?

Google Posts are relevant company updates. You can compare them with updates on a Facebook Page. They appear in Google Search (= in the Google search results) and in Google Maps. With these short updates, Google gives small businesses the ability to take action and promote events, showcase top products or announce vacancies. When people look up your business, they can see these posts. They can click on them, leave a comment or share the message. An important remark is that these updates are limited in time. Google Posts expire within 7 days after publishing them. This is a good thing, because it means that you will only see contemporary posts.

How do you create Google Posts for your business?

First things first: you need to have a Google My Business account. What if you don’t have one yet? No problem! Read here how you can easily create an account. After you are logged in, you click on ‘Posts’ in the menu on the left.

Next, you can create a post. You can write a short text, up to 300 words. Especially the first 79 characters are very important, because they will appear directly on Google. It’s also possible to upload an image. Finally, you can add a call-to-action button (for example: “Sign up”) and a link to your website.

When you click on ‘Preview’, you can see how your post will appear on Google. Are you happy? Go ahead, publish your post! Within one minute it’s live on Google, ready to reach a bigger audience.
