How So Buzzy Automated Carrefour’s End-of-Year Campaign
Promoting thousands of products and 700 stores through social media? That’s quite the task and exactly the challenge Carrefour Belgium faced. Now, imagine doing this on a large scale and personalizing it at the same time. For example, promoting a specific store along with a product that is only visible to people near that store. That’s exactly what we did for Carrefour Belgium!

Creative variation: the key to success
During the holiday season, Carrefour surprised their customers with extra festive deals via Carrefour Extra. The goal? Driving people to the store. And we did this with recipes, countdown ads and location-targeted posts. But, as is in our DNA, we took it a step further! 💥
A key part of our strategy was creating ads that aligned perfectly with Carrefour’s target audience. To achieve this and to avoid ad fatigue, we used dynamic templates to provide the necessary creative variation without requiring extra production budget.
Time savings through automation
To make this all possible, we partnered with Hunch, a tool that allowed us to automate creative processes and media flows. This enabled us to create hundreds of unique ads, set promotion countdowns and place hyper-personalized ads. We distributed Carrefour’s content across the various stages of the customer journey, ensuring that we delivered the right message at the right stage.
1️⃣ In the first stage of the funnel, we created recipe ads. These were aimed at inspiring a broad audience with simple dishes made using Carrefour ingredients. With Hunch’s Creative Studio, we could easily roll out these ads. A convenient tool allowed us to quickly adapt the designs for each ad and each stage.

2️⃣ Once we had captured the audience’s attention, it was time to motivate customers to visit the stores. We did this by promoting products on sale, combined with store maps and hyper-targeted localization. We ensured that each ad was shown exactly at the right location, tailored to where the customer was.
The automation tool Feed Mapper was used to gather and organize all the necessary information. An automated campaign was then set up, allowing for quick adjustments without the need to manually manage every single ad.

3️⃣ To enhance the FOMO (fear of missing out) feeling, we created countdown ads showing how many days were left until the end of a promotion. Every 24 hours, a new ad was displayed. Once one promotion ended, the next one would automatically start with a new countdown. Everything ran fully automated, with no manual work required!

The results: more for less
We delivered hundreds of hyper-personalized ads with less maintenance and manual labor!
Our recipe ads achieved an outbound click-through rate (CTR) that was 4.1 times higher than other image ads in similar campaigns. 📈 Instead of communicating just a few recipes, our creative automation tool, Hunch, helped us create many creative variations at once. This significantly reduced production costs and increased the chances of high-performing content.
The hyper-local ads also exceeded expectations:
- CPM: 81% lower than the target
- Cost per thousand people reached: 94% lower than the target
In addition to the countdown campaign, there was another campaign running during the holiday season without time-limited offers. ⏰ When we reviewed the results, it was clear that the countdown campaign had a greater impact on website performance:
- Purchase rate: 28% higher
- ROAS: 31% higher
- Average purchase value: 13% higher
In other words, the countdown campaign generated much more action and success.
